Glioma Development: Where Did It All Go Wrong?
Investigating the family tree of a tumor to identify its cellular origins is a daunting task. Liu et al. (2011) now use an elegant lineage tracing technique (MADM) to visualize glioma from its earliest stages. They show that mutations originally induced in neural stem cells lie dormant and only trigger malignant transformation following differentiation into oligodendrocyte precursor cells.

a r t i c l e i n f o How does outward foreign direct investment (FDI) affect employment growth of the multinational corporations (MNCs) in the home country? Does the impact of outward investment differ by the level of development of the destination country of the FDI? Using a difference-indifference approach, we assess the impact of starting to invest in less-advanced countries compared with i...
متن کاملWhere did it come from, where do you go? Direction sources influence navigation decisions during spatial uncertainty.
Previous research on route directions largely considers the case when a knowledgeable route-giver conveys accurate information. In the real world, however, route information is sometimes inaccurate, and directions can lead navigators astray. We explored how participants respond to route directions containing ambiguities between landmarks and turn directions, forcing reliance on one or the other...

(Pcdh) family of genes is a large subgroup within the cadherin superfamily of cell adhesion molecules. The Pcdh family is divided into clustered (Pdch-a, Pdch-b and Pdch-c genes) and non-clustered families and they are predominantly expressed in brain (Yagi 2008). There has been considerable interest in the role of the Pdch family in synaptogenesis and neuronal survival (Weiner et al. 2005). Ho...
